The concrete drive is always a bit of an eyesore, but when we had a new water pipe laid recently the depth was about a foot, so a big and expensive job to replace.
Letting the garden grow

I decided to write about my passion for gardening past, present and future. I have been ill suffering with Lyme Disease since May 2003 but at last after long term antibiotic treatment getting my life back and can again enjoy my garden.

ReplyDeleteso I will add my vote to hers !!
That is such a creative way to green up the concrete. With the plantings on either side, it makes a very lush entry.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! But perhaps a sunken trough would be less prone to damage after pub night...
ReplyDeleteGreat idea! I love the way it looks. So lush ... I wouldn't even know it was a driveway. -Jackie
ReplyDeleteWoW! Joanne what a great idea. It looks wonderful too.
ReplyDeleteI haven't been on for a while so had to go back and read some of your posts. I just hate missing them.
I sure hope you win the contest with that fantastic blooming tree! I can't believe how loaded it is.
And of course your Clematis posts. I want more Clematis - gobs of them. But I've lost a few and think I'm a bit gun shy now - and also need to figure out where I'd put them. They are so gorgeous!!!
Funny idea, never thought you have a car until the end of the story.
ReplyDeleteI love how that looks. I've seen some driveways in Seattle that actually have just two cement strips for the tires to drive on, and the rest is planted, but nothing as neat as that! I bet it does catch on.
ReplyDeleteI found your blog after visiting Joe at Lyme Chronicles. What beautiful photos you have shared with your readers. I am so happy I came across it as I can enjoy nature from my laptop even more now thanks to your garden.
ReplyDeleteI have Lyme along with my husband. I have been on meds 2 yrs and he is just starting. Nice to read about someone who has succeeded in their treatment.
I saw your post on blotanical. Nice blog you have here. I love the trough idea! It kinda makes me want to rip out our concrete driveway. -Jackie
ReplyDeleteLove that idea. I love to look at your pictures. It looks like every square inch of your yard is covered with flowers.
ReplyDeleteI love it! It's absolutely perfect! gail
ReplyDeleteYou're a women that thinks like me...
ReplyDeleteCan't waste any space !!!!
Love everything crowded.
Have to take a look see at your other posts.
Curious now...need to know what you've got growing in your front yard.
Hi Thanks for popping by and your lovely comments when I get a bit of time I will return the visit.
ReplyDeleteRenee I am so pleased you visited yes lyme disease is grim and so debilitating how sad that both you and your husband are affected. I do hope you enjoy visiting my garden as I guess you are not able to enjoy yours at present.
The politics surounding this illness are hardly credible until you start delving and so much of my time is spent when I am not gardening and blogging on trying to raise awareness particularly around where I live as there is a growing number of cases I am getting to know.
Brilliant idea for spicing up the driveway! I wish it would work for our driveway. But ours is rather goofy as it is. I better focus on the area alongside the driveway first!
ReplyDeleteYour driveway must be the best looking driveway around! :-)
ReplyDeleteLove it!!!!!!!!
Michelle
If I did that my husband would band the neighbors together, and boo! boo! me out of it.
ReplyDeleteI like it very much, but would not be brave enough to carry it off.
That is a fantastic idea that should be presented quickly to garden & home magazines. Even DH liked this idea. TTFN ~ Marydon
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, it adds more green to the driveway.
ReplyDeleteJoanne - that's such a good idea and just the thing that should be adopted more widely especially as more and more people are concreting over their front drives for their cars.
ReplyDeleteGreat idea, you found extra space to put plants... It encourage people to be extra careful when they drive....

I love it! We have lots of cement here, but I don't think my husband would be up for taking any out. I love what you did! I actually do have a couple flower beds in the front because our neighbor had to have her water main be replaced, and they had to dig in our yard.
ReplyDeleteI came here from Jan's. Nice blog!
Thanks everyone. We have very narrow opening to our drive between the posts but also because the plants don't allow the gates to open fully so we have to line the car up well for that and then it is about right for the plants down the middle so not as difficult as it looks.
