Back again for more.
There is little we can do to get her out once she has started eating the peas and although she looks so sweet, like some other Springer Spaniels she can certainly bare her teeth if you try and make her do something she doesn't want to do.
By the time she had finished Mike decided his re- named Reluctant peas were really not worth struggling with any more and by the time I got back from chasing Orchids he had removed what was left of the peas.
We have gates in the garden and for the last day or so we had kept Beth out of the vegetable area but Mike being the softy he is where Beth is concerned did not like to shut her out from where he was working.
Beth also eats Broad beans, Runner Beans, French Beans, Strawberries and Raspberries, although I do mange to protect the Strawberries from Beth and the birds and the other plants I try to pick daily before Beth gets the crop. She sometimes stands next to me and has been known to snatch a bean from my hand.
Now I know all you dog lovers will be amused and think what a dear sweet dog but today I can't agree.
Hi Joanne
ReplyDeleteWell I'm amused and have to say what a dear sweet dog!
Rob
I can't let Buddy in my garden. He rips thru the plants like nothing there. The flowers too.
ReplyDeleteSorry your having a bad dog moments or bad dog week.
So funny -- in that last photo, you can see that little curly lip with teeth!
ReplyDeleteRob Hmm I can't quite agree but she is the apple of Mike's eye well most of the time.
ReplyDeleteBecca's Dirt yes dogs do vary so with their personalities my first dog was a treasure in the garden and i don't remeber any damage. The second was OK unless she decided to flush the birds out and Beth is quite a handfull.
Islandgardener Yes we see the teeth often enough although I think it is a mouthfull of peas in this photo. nice of you to join me on my blog.
Wow. I'm mostly noticing that box hedging - a lot of care went into trimming that! I'm very partial to box.
ReplyDeleteI feel sorry for Mike to be honest but I suspect that's not what you want to read! Our peas don't seem to be coming to much, but the mangetout are doing better. I might only grow those next year.
She really looks so cute even though I know it's not so cute when it's your own garden. Our dog pulled and ate all of my oldest daughter's carrots a few years ago. It was the first time she had good luck with them and was waiting to see how big they would get. That was the summer we put the picket fence in to keep her out of the raised beds.
ReplyDeleteIf she wasn't so doggone cute I'd be mad at her too!

I had my own dog disasters this week (in fact, I blogged about them, too!) -- I can commiserate. They can be naughty, but we love them! That's a great shot of Beth with the peas. I guess she wanted more fiber in her diet, lol!
ReplyDeleteBeth is one industrious little garden helper. I am impressed she likes peas at all.
ReplyDeleteOMG! So funny! I love the pic where she has a mouthful of peas and is caught in the act! My Ellie Mae does that with green beans. She pulls them right off the plant and also if I harvest them she tries to steal them from my basket. Great post! -Jackie
ReplyDeleteDogs can be forgiven - anything!
ReplyDeleteThis post made me chuckle, pets are so funny when caught in the act. I have 3 cats and all do their own special annoying garden thing. Like my Monty likes to sleep in the raised beds and "water" my freshly planted plants. Animals eh! :D
ReplyDeleteShe does look sort of cute - BUT as I love my peas more than I love dogs, she won't be invited to my garden!
ReplyDeleteI have hens who have been banished from the veg patch unless they are under VERY strict supervision, I no that some people (husband) think the hens enjoy being out there, but the head gardener (me) has put her foot down!
Celia
Oh but look at that wee goregous face! How can you be angry at that? Big tickles to Beth from me.
ReplyDeleteThanks for the pictures of my friend Beth!! Cute as ever!!
ReplyDeleteI would never think a dog would eat such things that you listed! I saw my german shepherd eating grapes (that we dropped) and salal berries from the bush, but that's all!
ReplyDeleteJoanne, is it boxwoods so nicely trimmed? I love those neat hedges!
Tatyana Yes it is Boxwood.
ReplyDeleteAdorable!
