PHOTO EXPERIMENTING 3

After talking with my daughter I realised that it was the White balance that needed adjusting on my camera. I had been playing indoors and not adjusted the settings back. So I decided to see how things compare by having the only differential the WB settings.
The first one is in fully automatic mode and from that I copied the settings just adjusting the WB so they are all ISO 80 Av 4 Tv 1/125.

The above was manual settings as Auto but also AWB automatic white balance still a very slight difference in the sky an improvement I think.

This was with WB set on daylight and perhaps my favourite although I don't remember the sky being so blue so perhaps an enhancement rather than a true capture.

This was with WB on the cloudy setting

This was white balance on fluorescent light setting which is meant for indoors but is very similar as the daylight

This one had WB set on Tungsten.

  2. yes, WB plays a big role, especially with whites....LOL But another thing you want to keep in mind is that all meters try to balance everything to a neutral gray unless you tell it otherwise. so snow will look gray; blacks will look gray. to keep snow white, you want to overexpose by at least one stop or add 1EC if shooting in AP, etc.
They are very pretty pics!! Thank you for visiting my blog. xo

  4. Beautiful pictures, whatever the settings! I actually like the blue in the last photo; not natural, but has an enhanced wintry feeling to it. I can feel the cold!

  5. Joanne, I like the one WB on fluorescent light best. I see that you are having fun. I am having fun learning from you and seeing your beautiful winter picturs too. Thank you for sharing with us. I love it!

  6. Hi Joanne, thanks for doing this and posting the details. I just am unable, or make that too lazy to try all the settings. For this group, the only one that seems radically different is the tungsten, and probably not at all what the eye sees on that one. Kudos to you for braving the cold in the name of photography science! ;-)

  11. First off....What's with all the snow ???
    Not common right ?

More power to you for learning all the teck stuff on your camera. It can be overwhelming.

I got lazy and just adjust the brightness at adobe. I know it's lazy but I still have to figure out my cell phone and get my printer working etc...it never ends. :)

  12. Amazing what a difference that white balance makes. The ins and outs of our own camera's can make such a difference in your photos. It's just finding the time to experiment like you have here.
